WORD2003 used to auto-update file & pathname in footer now doesnt

G'day
I often make new copies of Word 2003 documents by saving a similar document
with a new file name.
Word 2003 used to update the filename and path in the footer when closing
the new document.
It no longer does and one has to remember to manually uipdate it using the
"update field" command.
Any solutions ??

It has been a very long time since filename fields updated
automatically -- see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832897.

If your documents contain more than one section, the macro in
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm is better than the one in
the KnowledgeBase article.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832897. You could add an AutoOpen macro
to Normal.dot that would update all fields at open, or a SaveAs macro that
would update fields when saving a file under a new name.
