How do you insert a link in the footer

In Word 2003 I had a link in my footer that would automatically update the
date on each page each time I manually changed the date on the initial page
of a report. In Word 2007, I cannot get the links to automatically update.
I am using two small tables, one in the text of the document and one in the
footer. In Word 2003 when I updated the table in the text of the document
the data in the footer updated automatically. In Word 2007 it will not.
What do I need to do to correct this problem?

You might want to use a StyleRef field, which does update automatically,
regardless of location.
