Automatic Page numbering in a table...NOT in header/footer

Does anyone know how to get Word 2007 to automatically update page numbering
that is in a table will appears on each page within the body of my document
rather than in a header or footer. I am designing a template that I hope to
incorporate into a Macro which will allow it to be inserted on the top of
each new page in a document. The table cannot appear in a header or footer
because it will have a drop-down list that the user will choose a selection
from at the time he/she inserts it. The table also has blank fields in which
the user will type information...making it impossible to go into a
header/footer. I have inserted the page number field into the table and
instructed it to continue from last section, but it doesn't automatically
update when added to the document. It also doesn't automatically update when
it is already in the document and other pages are inserted before it. I have
to right click on the "field" and instruct it to "update field" before the
pages numbers appear correctly.

I would greatly appreciate suggestions from anyone.

Thanks!

You were correct to insert Page fields in the tables. There isn't any way to
make them update automatically.

You don't have to update each one individually, though. You can do either of
these:

- Press Ctrl+A to select the whole document, then press F9 to update all fields
in the selected text.

- Go to Office button > Word Options > Display and make sure the option "Update
fields before printing" is checked. (You should only have to set this once.) To
update the page fields and everything else, go to Print Preview and back. (This
is easier if you add a button for Print Preview to the Quick Access Toolbar.)
