Is word in Windows XP different from word in Windows 98?

Word is not provided as part of either of these operating systems. But
the version you used with Win98 (probably Word97) will still work under
WinXP, although the Word2002 version that forms part of OfficeXP is an
updated product.

there wasn't Word in Window 98. There was wordpad, and it is different.
You may have had Word as an add to you Win98 computer, and there isn't much
difference if you did.

Windows XP does not contain Word, as no version of Windows ever has
(including W98).
Windows is an operating system, Word is an application. You usually get Word
by purchasing MS Office. Some sellers may package Office with the computers
they sell.

Word doesn't come with either Windows XP or Windows 98.

If you run the same version of Word in both operating systems,
it's the same in both; if you run different versions in each
operating system, they are different.

WORD 97 and 2000 and XP/2002 are Windows compatible
applications.
WORD 98 is the Mac version for Apple.

Operating Systems...Windows 3.x, W 95, 98, 98se, ME, 2000,
NT,XP He, Pro run Windows programs which you buy as part of
a computer bundle or select yourself. Depending on what you
need to do and who else needs to be able to open, edit or
print your data files.

When you buy a car, you should look at the options list and
go beyond the color. Same for computers and software.
