Several of you have already downloaded SP2. I wonder how
many of you have tried the following and ended up with an
error message? I have confirmed this with three other SP2
users.

Open Word 2003 or Word XP.
Click View.
Click Toolbars.
Click Web Tools.
Click the Sound icon at the bottom-left of the web tool box
You SHOULD get a dialog box called "Background Sound" and
the ability to enter a sound clip filename (.mid or .wav
file).

However, if you are using SP2, you are more likely to get
an error message:

"This object was created in HTNLInlineSoundCtl.
This application is not available to open this object.
Make sure the application is proeprly installed, etc."

This ONLY occurs with SP2; it worked perfectly well with
SP1. Can anyone else please verify this is happening to
them?

By the way, before you ask, yes, I do have macros and
controls enabled in Office 2003, i.e., Office Shared
Features which includes Visual Basic Applications.
Thanks very much.

Yes, same here. Word 2003

I also get the message you describe with SP2 applied. I do not know if it
worked prior to the applying SP2.

Thanks, Kurt, for verifying. Let's hope someone from M$
will also take a peek at these replies and at least report
it up the line. I won't hold my breath, though.

Here too sp2 Word XP

I have downloaded but haven't installed SP2 yet and have just tried this in
Word XP. It worked normally bringing up a box asking for the location of
the sound file. The more I read about SP2 the less inclined I am to install
it.

Maybe if you'd post in the approprite news group?

http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=xpsp2&slcid
=us

You can set your newsreader to read the groups (notice the scroll bar
at the right!) or you can read them online.

BTW, wouldn't it be nice if all the SP2 questions went to the SP2
newsgroups which are monitored by MSFT people? I suspect lots of folks
don't know about them.

There are *no* sp2-specific newsgroups on msnews.microsoft.com.

There are *no* sp2-specific newsgroups on msnews.microsoft.com.

Nor did I suggest that there were.

Once again, for those who reply w/o reading:

For those who can't figure out URLs:

That was for those that were using the RCs. The proper group to support XP
SP2 RTM is this one, though in this particular thread, the OP might want to
also ask in the one of the Office/Word newsgroups.

That was/is for those who want MSFT people to see their posts regarding
SP2.

MVPs et al are great for helping solve problems but they don't have the
ability to bring a problem to the attention of the proper folks at
Microsoft as fast as MSFT employees do.

Since many of the problems with SP2 might be SP2 itself it just makes
sense to post where Microsoft will see the post.

When the Private XP SP2 groups have done their work I believe they'll
be shut down, until then, they are the proper place to post SP2
problems.

PS, you might notice that MSFT personnel are still replying to posts
there?

The MSFT boys have no problem censoring the posts here. Just ask Mike
Brannigan. MS has people reading this group, and the PRIVATE SP2 group was
for those using the RCs.

And I notice that their are other MSFT people posting here, and this is the
OFFICAL MS PUBLIC NG for Windows XP, no matter what flavor.

And what's more, the OP posted from the CDO Web interface to this group, not
through a Newsreader.

So just give it up, as this is the place to post ALL questions about Windows
XP.
