word...wordperfect

my dell notebook came with something called wordperfect...is it differernt
from word? i don't know quite what to make of it

Both Word and WordPerfect are word processing programs, but they are
different ones. Word is a Microsoft product, WordPerfect is a Corel Product.

For many years WordPerfect was the industry leader in word processing
programs, but several years ago, Word became more popular. Today Word has a
considerably larger market share.

But market share doesn't really tell you anything about which product is
better. Something is not better than the competition simply because it wins
a popularity contest. Although my opinion is clearly in the minority, I (and
a substantial number of other people) greatly prefer WordPerfect to Word.

Since you already own a copy of WordPerfect, I recommend that you try it,
and decide for yourself how you like it. No need to take my opinion or
anyone else's.

If you tend to share your documents with others you may want to look at
installing MS Word. While WordPerfect can save as .DOC files you will have
trouble with some of the formatting of WordPerfect documents being retained
when the file is opened in Word.

Doctors and lawyers use WordPerfect because it had
customizations that made producing their particular formats
easy.

Either WORD or WordPerfect can read and save files in the
others format.

If you want WORD, the least expensive way to get it is to
buy WORKS SUITE which includes WORD [the standard WORKS does
not]. Or if you are in school or have children in school,
get a Student/Teacher version of OFFICE {about $125-150}.

Especially lawyers, but eevn there, not as many as used to.

Yes, but depending on how complex the format is, the result will vary
between fine and terrible.
