If a document is created in Word 2007 can it be edited or read in an older
version?
Two ways:
When you save the document in Word 2007, you can choose to save it in
Word 97-2003 format. (Click the Office button, hover the mouse over
the Save As item, and choose the appropriate item in the menu.)
If you save in Word 2007 format instead, you can download and install
the Compatibility Pack on the older Office

to enable it to read the newer format. In this case, "older" means
back to Office 2000.
In either case, there will be some new features that don't travel
well. When you save from 2007 in the older format, it will tell you
exactly what parts will be "downgraded" (for example, SmartArt will be
converted to ordinary pictures).
