Formatting/Style Issues Between Word 2007 and earlier versions

Has anyone experienced style/formatting issues (i.e., random style changes or
disappearing styles) when attempting to correct the formatting on a document
that was all or partially created in an older version of Word or a different
word processing software altogether? I would like to find a quick fix to be
able to create consistent style within a multi-authored document when not all
of the contributors are working in Word 2007.
