Word UNDO now does single chars not strings. Why?

Recently, MS Word's UNDO function stopped un-entering the last whole
character-string I entered and only undoes the last character. I am
formatting a book for publication and use UNDO quite a lot. This is a major
inconvenience. Seems I inadvertenely threw a switch somewhere, but where?
F1-Help does not recognize the issue. Perhaps I fatfingered something in
Tools.Options.

Since no one else seems to have an idea, here's my best guess...

You have an ADDIN that's interfering. Unfortunately, you don't mention the
version of Word you're using, so I can only give you general instructions:

Start Word in SAFE MODE and test whether it behaves correctly. If it does, you
need to track down what kind of Addin is interfering. If you installed anything
since it last worked correctly, try removing that, first.

Thanks Cindy. I ordered your book, btw, and reviewed your website. Could
not find a working e-mail address. Could you send to (e-mail address removed)? -
