Word Template Design

Hi!

I wish to create a template document that includes a table of 2
columns and an *unspecified* number of rows (ie. could be 10 or it
could be 100). The thing I want to do is - whenever the user tabs to
the end of the table and thus creates a new row with 2 columns - I
want some text in column 1 to default in.

The text is "Step X". Where X is an incrementing number which is
populated by a "Listnum" field.

Any ideas?

Well, I don't know how you'd get it with a ListNum field, but you could
certainly accomplish this by applying to column 1 a style that includes
"Step #" autonumbering. The first cell in each new row would contain a
paragraph with the next higher number.

Ah ha!!!

Very nice. If I get what you meant - I defined my own numbering style
as "Step #". Where the number increases. Then I created a font style
based on that numbering style (not sure if I had to do that but here's
the style definitions in Word 2007:

Right, Numbered + Level: 1 + Numbering Style: 1, 2, 3, … + Start at: 1
+ Alignment: Right + Aligned at: 0.63 cm + Indent at: 1.27 cm,
Style: Automatically update, Quick Style, Based on: Normal, Following
style: Normal

Then I adjusted the right margin in the first column to hide the tab
(Can you do the numbering without the tab on the right?).

Anyway - works like a charm!

Thanks guru!

In a multi-level list, you have the option to "Follow number with" either a
tab, a space, or nothing. Nothing would be what you want.
