Word Table of Contents

Every time I update my entire TOC (not just page numbers), any graphics
that I have embedded in the document show up in the TOC. So far, I've
been manually deleting them and then update page numbers only.
However, this is becoming a pain. The graphics are showing up right
above the noted page number in the TOC.

Has anyone else experienced this? Help!

Assuming that you're using the plain-vanilla TOC that picks up all
paragraphs that have heading styles, this symptom means that the graphics
are in paragraphs formatted with heading styles. Go to those graphics in the
body of the document and change their paragraph style to Normal or Body Text
or any other non-heading style. Then update the entire TOC.

Alternatively, if the graphics were inserted after the TOC was initially
created, it's possible that they've gotten inside the hidden bookmarks Word
creates around heading paragraphs when it generates the TOC. If you press
Enter at the beginning of a heading, not only do you get the heading style
(which would create the problem Jay described), but, even if you change the
style, your graphic will still be inside the bookmark. To avoid this
problem, insert paragraphs for graphics by pressing Enter at the end of the
previous paragraph instead.

G'Day

I had the same problem, and the fix was to simply format the graphic layout
to be "Tight Center" vs. "In Line with Text". Try changing the layout to
something other than "In Line with Text", see if that does the trick.
