word says file not available after update. where is it?

after word was updated(amongst others) tried to get a document up in word and
it says 'file not available'. how do i get my dissertation proposal back!!!!!
all other word docs unavailable too...

Have you tried using Windows Explorer to navigate to where a Word file is
stored, then rt+click the file icon, point to Open With, and select Choose
Program. In that dialog box, select Word and check the box for 'Always use
the selected...' & click OK.

If that doesn't fix it, there is some other problem to address.

oh pants...after reading some other threads...wondering.....could this have
something to do with Norton being uninstalled and avg being put on???

Possibly. You probably need to uninstall the remaining NAV bits, as
described here:

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

thanks to all, after reinstalling norton, all now works so not going to
fiddle with it any more, lol....i'll get an expert in....
