Word Problem

I just received this new laptop, and have never had this problem before. None
of my co-workers have it. When I click a Word document link, Word actually
opens, but the document that opens is blank. This has been going on for a few
weeks and nothing I do seems to work.

I've been having my co-workers open the documents and print them out for me,
but why is this happening and what can I do to fix it? It happens on all Word
documents I open from a link.

Thanks for your help,
Nancy

It was worth a try. ;-)

Can you open Word and then use File > Open to bring up existing documents?

If that works, then the problem spot is probably in the connection between
Windows Explorer and Word. It's a little involved to get to, but easy to
fix.

- In Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options, and then click the File
Types tab.
- Select the DOC entry in the list.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Select the Open item in the list.
- Click the Edit button.
- In the box labeled "Application to perform action", make sure the entry is

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE" /n /dde

(If you have Office 2003, the number 11 is correct; if you have Office XP,
it
should be 10; and if you have Office 2000 it should be 9.)

- In the box labeled "DDE Message", make sure the entry is

[REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")]

The Application box should say WinWord and the Topic box should say
System.
The "DDE Apllication Nor Running" box should be empty.

- Click OK in each dialog until you get back to Windows Explorer.
