In print layout view I sometimes get a background grid. I don't know how I
turned it on and I can not figure out how to turn it off. Any suggestions?

jdm, I'll offer two possibilities:

Tools > Options > View. Uncheck Text Boundaries. OK.

On the Drawing Toolbar (View > Toolbars > Drawing), Draw > Grid. Uncheck
Display Gridlines on Screen. OK.

Hope this helps.

thank you, thank you, thank you for this solution. i've been trying to get
rid of the incredibly annoying text boundary for weeks with no luck because i
didn't know it is called a text boundary! thanks again!!
