Word lock up system

F

Frank Dennis

Recently when I try to open Word, the system locks up after the Word
announcement appears in the middle of the screen. When I try
ctrl+alt+delete, I get a series of messages telling me my resources are
dangerously low,(resource meter indicates 67%) and do I want to shut down
things like systray, explorer, etc. The only way I can do a restart is with
the reset button on the tower.
I have Word 2000 SR-1, that came with my Dell. The OS is Windows Me.
I tried the repair option in add-remove programs, that didn't work. I then
removed word, and reinstalled it using the CD that came with the Dell. It
looked like a clean install, I had as many things turned off as possible.
The results are the same. It makes no difference if the normal running
applications are going or not.
Sure would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Frank

If you haven't made any changes to your system (i.e. new software) you may just need to clean up the harddrive. Go to Start, then Programs, Accessories, System Tools. First select Disk Cleanup, when that is done go back to Start/Programs/Accessories/System tools and then select Disk Fragmenter. This is a long procedure so get yourself a good cup of coffee and find something else to do while you wait.

Good Luck.
