Word is either busy or cannot be found

When I am attempting to compose an email I frequently get
this error message, " This form requires Word as your e-
mail editor, but Word is either busy or cannot be found.
The form will be opened in the Outlook editor instead."

When this happens Word is not running on the PC, but does
exist on the PC. It does not always happen, just randomly.

I have this exact same problem -- has anyone encountered this and found a solution yet?? The only post I've been able to find online regarding this issue is related to problems with Word Viewer; however, I do not have this installed on my system. I am running Office 2003 without prior installations.

There appear to be a whole host of causes for this error message. Most have
no solution. Here are a few that do:

Thank you very much for taking the time to post these links. Unfortunately, most of them do not apply to my current PC environment, and the one that did did not work (deleting registry entries and repairing office). It is frustrating that this useful feature of Office cannot be utilized in light of this error. I am still not sure why I would have this problem and others wouldn't....

As said, there appear to be innumerable causes for this problem and new ones
emerging all the time. There are fewer solutions than causes. Someone just
emailed me yesterday to tell me SP3 for Office XP caused his. I've not seen
this one confirmed, however.
