...Word is either busy or cannot be found...

I have read quite a few posts, but none seem to address my issue
specifically. Within the last few dqays I have been receiving the following
error message after I click the reply button:
"This form requires Word as your e-mail editor, but Word is either busy or
cannot be found. The form will be opened in the Outlook editor instead."
At this point I click the OK button to proceed. Before this issue came
about I had no reason to go into the Mal Format tab; thus, all emails, reply
or otherwise, were' edited' using Word. The versions of both match exactly.
I have attempted to check the box designated Word as my editor, but it does
not stay that way (the check mark is gone when I go back to verify it is
checked).

What can be done to maintain Word as my editor? Any help with will be
greatly appreciated.

Do you have Word selected as your email editor in IE\Properties\Programs. Is your
Office a Trial version

Yes, Word is selected as you describe. IE is not my default browser, but
this has never been an issue in the past. The issue has literally popped up
in the last 2-3 days.
No, my Office is not a trial version. In Outlook, under the About menu, my
version is: Word 2002 (10.6856.6856) SP3. I have the exact same version when
I look under About in Word. Word is selected as me e-mail editor in Outlook
as well.
