Word has changed data to square boxes..Why?

In Word I had a Christmas list set up with addresses now it is all in
boxes..I am not sure why?
 
Did you save the file directly from Word to a floppy disk, or
open the file directly from a floppy disk? If so, the file could
be corrupt.

To fix your document, you could try the macro from here:

I've seen a few documents like that. Often it happens when you apply a symbol font and save the document, then try to change the font back.
But I've also received a few files where the author said (s)he didn't do that, and the boxes just suddenly appeared when they opened the document.
Maybe it occurs when the font is missing, and Word falsely substitutes a decorative font? Just a guess...
