Word hangs when converting to PDF

Hello,

I have a 150 page document with pictures, links, bookmarks, etc. and
when I try to run the Adobe 6.0 converter on it, it hangs up halfway
through every time. Any ideas on what is causing the problem?

Eleysium:

If you mean the PDFMaker macros, you might try:

1. In Acrobat Distiller, click Settings > Font Locations and ensure that you
will only be looking for fonts on a local hard drive.

2. In Word, click Adobe PDF > Change Conversion Settings, and clear all but
the first two check boxes on the Settings tab, and all check boxes on all
other tabs. You may want to add some of them back later, but first clear them
to see if the problem goes away.

3. Do a binary split on the Word file to isolate a problem area. I.E. try
creating two files by splitting the file in two. Process each half separately
and see if either on still hangs. Repeat the process on the hanging file,
until you've narrowed the problem text down.

I don't know if this is still a problem, but we used to have difficulty
processing files that started with a table, or with a single autonumbered
para then a table. If that's the case, you'll need to put a dummy para before
the table.

Thanks so much - clearing all of the check boxes did the trick. The
problem is that I want bookmarks and links to display. If including
them causes it to hang - what then?

Update: It will now work and generate bookmarks, but cross-doc
references and hyperlinks seem to be problematic. Not sure why.

With any luck it won't. But the troubleshooting and workaround are still the
same. Process the document in halves, isolating any problem half. Eventually,
you'll either find a corruption somewhere, or a file size small enough that
the pieces process.

You can stitch the separate PDFs back together in Acrobat.
