Word formats non-marked text

This problems is related to
- bullets
- bold/italic/underlined text
- numbered text/numbered styles

When I mark text e.g. for making a bulletted list, I often experience that
the whole document has been bulletted, though I have marked only a small
section of text. In "Autocorrect" automatic bulletting is turned off.
If I use Ctrl/z in this situation, I get my document rigth. Why? How can I
avoid this?

A second question: In Word 2003, which I use, "Remove format" is a new, long
wanted feature. Is there any way of making Word display all formatting-code
? (Like we could with WP 15 years ago?)

For your first question, please see:

For your second question, the following applies:

I'm not sure what "Remove format" does, since I have not yet upgraded
to Word 2002/2003, but if it applies to the formatting of text, there
are certainly similar tools in older versions: To remove character
formatting (such as font name and size, bold, underline, and so on)
not in style, you could apply the "Default Paragraph Font" character
style, or select the text in question and press CTRL+SPACEBAR, which
does the same thing. And pressing CTRL+Q removes paragraph formatting
(numbering, space after, space before, line spacing, tab stops,
alignment, indents, and so on) not in style.

document, and the square bullets in the left margin, mean?
