Word File Sharing

I have two laptops that both use 1 broadband router. One laptop is wireless
and the other is wired to the router. Is it possible to use these two PC's
as a LAN? More particularly is it possible for one person to save a Word Doc
on laptop 1
and close it, with the person on laptop 2 being able to open that same
document (and vice versa). If so how?

I've gone to control panel and enabled file sharing, but not sure how to
actually do it or if it works that way.
