Word envelope spacing

I have a letter open on my screen and I need to print an envelope, so I hit
the mailing tab and click 'envelope' and it keeps double-spacing the text on
the envelope. The spacing on the document IS single spaced. Is there a
checkbox I'm missing somewhere? Is there an option to not bring formatting
over from the document to the envelope?

A couple of possibilities:

1. The Envelope Address style is double-spaced.

2. The Envelope Address style has some Spacing After, and you're pressing
Enter rather than Shift+Enter at the end of each line of the address.

Spacing After in the document might also be a factor.

I have never used Shift+Enter on an address for a letter, and I usually
block the address in the letter and then click the envelope icon. Most of the
time the envelope address will format as single spaced, but occasionally it
comes out double-spaced, even though the formatting is set for single
spacing, with no Spacing After settings. It doesn't make any sense. Can you
be more specific in what should be done to avoid this?

Anything I said would be pretty much a guess without time to do research to
back it up. I use envelope templates and never use the Envelopes dialog, so
I'm not very familiar with how it works.

this same thing was happening to me. I went back to the body of the letter
and hit the shift+ enter at the end of each line of the internal address and
then went to envelope. It FINALLY showed single spaced.
I don't understand why one would have to do this little manuever to
accomplish what in other versions of Word was seamless????
Thanks Suzanne for the help!

Well, I always use line breaks in my inside addresses because my Inside
Address style has some Space After.
