Word documents will not open

New computer, pre loaded, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, I can
create a document in word, but when I go to Documents it won't open. This
is the message that I am receiving: Command cannot be performed because a
dialog box is open. Check OK close open boxes to contine:

I notice that directly behind this message is a box that is labeled Windows
Installer
preparing to install.

When I click on the OK everything disappears. Message Box, Dialog Box and
the document. How can I fix this?? Thank you.

Also let Windows Installer actually install whatever Word component it's
trying to install.
