What does a dialog box is still open mean?

When I try to open up a word document, I get an error message that says "The
command cannot be performed because a dailog box is open. Click OK, and then
close dialog box to contine. When I click OK, another message pops up that
says Word cannot open the existing(Normal). I click OK and the document
opens. It does this everytime.

If you are using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it (but don't disable Norton
