word document icons are wrong

I have many Microsoft Word documents stored. However the icon for each
document is of a notepad. All of the documents open in Microsoft Word, just
the icon is wrong.
I have tried to change the icon by going into folder options. I have deleted
..doc file, edited and changed the icon. Bu none of these work, the icon is
still notepad.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you go into Windows Explorer, then to Tools>Folder Options>File Types
tab?

Highlight the DOC extension and reassociate it with Word.

i have done what you said. i associated the doc extensive with microsoft word
, but then it says opens with WordPad. i changed this to Microsoft word, but
then the icon changed but to the notepad
