word document and search engines

one question....hopefully someone knows the answer...can you do something
with your word document to make it unsearchable by the internet search
engines (once the document is on a certain server)?

No, you can't do anything to the document itself, because that's not how
search engines work.

To suggest that search engines omit the file, you have to use a robots.txt
file. Google for information, or see http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/faq.html.
