Word: Ctrl+click on a cross-ref I've created opens the reviewing p

This happens in a doc I have been editing and won't go away again, when I
deselect it from the toolbar.

I need to press CTRL and click the mouse to test the cross references work.

The only way I can make it go away is to close Word, whis isn't terribly
convenient when I'm working my way through a document checking for broken
cross-references.

Anyone have any idea how to stop this?
 
Have you tried clearing the 'Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink' checkbox?
