Word crashes when copying and pasting

Running Word 2002 on Windows M
Whenever I copy and paste anything from Word whether into another Word document or a completely different program all open Word documents freeze and must be closed with the Task Manager
Any ideas

At a glance I would say ME is not the ideal platform for Word 2002.
