Formatting Changing when Copying

I'm having an issue with copying text that was scanned and converted into
Word from an OCR program. The original Word document is completely fine, but
once copied in Word and and pasted into another Word doc, the formatting
changes. Some changes which occur when pasting are:
1) Non italicized words become italicized
2) Italicized words jump up in font size and are de-italicized
3) Occasionally all text become bold

This seems to happen randomly.
