word closes when trying to open another word document

Everytime i try and open any word document in a folder it closes word...i
have made a new folder and named it something totally different and copied
the documents over and it still does the same thing...its Word 2000 that i am
using
The wierd thing is that if i go through windows explorer to that same folder
and dble click on any of the documents it opens in Word fine...
its cursed anyone have any suggestions??
 
I actually ended up finding out what the issue was...when i opened word and
then click open...it was showing as Preview...i changed that to View...and
also there were a couple of corrupt files in the folder that would kick me me
out...so once i removed these files from the folder it worked fine :)
