Word attachments in Outlook 2002

Dave

I have a client who is unable to open Word attachments in
Outlook 2002. When trying to open the attachment it
gives him the error "Warning...This file may contain a
virus that may be harmful to your computer. You must save
this file to disk before it can be opened. It is very
important to verify this file is safe before you open
it." He can then either cancel or save it to disk. Once
saved to disk he can open it fine. I loaded an attachment
options fix on his machine and added a line in the
registry to allow .doc extensions as attachments but this
still did not take care of it. Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Remove the .doc extension from the registry.

The .doc extension was not originally in the registry and
didn't work when it wasn't. I added it in there to allow
those extensions.

By which you in fact restricted it. Doc-files are save by adding them to the
registry they become Level 2 which means displaying a warning and not being
able to open without saving first; which problem you are seeing now.

Not if the .doc extension is in the registry under the
Level1Remove registry key. This key is used to allow
attachments that would otherwise be blocked. I think you
are missing the point earlier stated. The extension was
NOT in the registry and it did NOT work. I added it to
the Level1Remove registry key to allow it. Checkout
knowledge base article 318515.

First remove the extension from the registry key. Like I said before; adding
a non-blocked extension will raise the level and will display a warning.

Does the user have the same problem when he logs on to a different computer?
