Well, I'm not going to tell you anything you don't know: the Works word
processor can't open Word files, and the viewer is only that.

If the documents are in Word 97 - 2003 format (*.doc, not the Word 2007 *.docx
format), you can edit them with Open Office. It's a free download from
http://www.openoffice.org. If that doesn't do what you need, you'll have to buy
Microsoft Office.

I have Works 9 installed and it will open (and save) both Word 97-2003 and
Word 2007 documents in their native formats (albeit with some features of
the document not available to Works wps format lost) , however I also have
Word 2003 and Word 2007 installed so there is every possibility that it can
use the same file converters to open and save the files and I don't suppose
it is possible to install the 2007 converter wiithout a version on Word
present? Nevertheless I am pretty sure that the Works word processor, at
least recent versions, can open Word DOC format - within the limitations of
what that Word Processor can handle.
