Word and pdf

R

Ricki Miles

I am helping a company develop forms that will ultimately be used on their
intranet in pdf format. I have several questions:

When using a Word protected form field, can the file be saved as pdf and can
the form fields be filled in while in Adobe Acrobat?

Will any macros attached to the form fields work in Adobe?

What are the advantages (security wise) of using Adobe over Word protected
form fields with password?

Thanks very much,

Ricki Miles

Adobe and Word are different. My hunch is you want to pick one or the
other ... not both, or neither. Any reason, since this an intranet
application, that you don't put the forms on a true web page (in HTML)
and put the data collected into a database for further processing. I
haven't the foggiest idea what you are doing, but my hunch, just a
hunch, is you are using the computer to make yet more paper?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

No, forms can not be saved and used in pdf format

I haven't tried using macros in pdf format yet

The only advantage of using pdf over Word would be that the document cannot be changed. But again, you can not complete the form in pdf, it would have to be printed out, filled in and sent or faxed to the owner

hope this helps

Thank you for your response Rob

Yes I know that, I was just responding to Rick's question.

My original question still stands: can you use Bookmarks in a Word form? Thank

Well, you can certainly create forms in Acrobat that can be filled out on
the computer, by typing directly into a field. I have no idea whether it
requires Acrobat Professional, or whether the tagging as a fillable field
must be done in Acrobat, or if Acrobat picks up the tagging from forms
created in Word, but I have filled out such forms many times (most recently
my US federal tax forms, which was incredibly convenient).

How do you want to use bookmarks in form? What are you expectations?
Have you tried? What were the results?

The form when printed is appoximately 12 pages. We want to make it easier (if possible) for the user to move around the form, rather than having to scroll through all those pages to find what they need.

I have tried adding bookmarks in the form and when I lock the form they do not work.
