Is there an automated way to compare a Microsoft Word document and an Adobe
PDF file?

I have not come across such a wonderful piece of software in the 15+ years I
have been using Word, lets hope someone can enlighten us!

It's not cheap, but DeltaView, now bundled into Workshare, will do this.
