Word 2k saving docs and normal.dot

Running Word 2k on Win XP Prof. Two things drive me nuts:

1. Hit "Save", then close document or Word. It pops up asking if you want
to save the doc.

("Just did, you bloody twit!")

2. Always asks if you want to save normal.dot (or of course you can set it
to save normal.dot automatically), even if - particularly if - there have
been no changes to the template. Instance: Open Word with default blank
doc. Immediately close it. "Changes have been made that may affect the
global template blah blah".

("Haven't changed anything, you bloody twit!").

Any ideas ??????

I've recently noticed (1) if I hit Close too quickly after Save; apparently
Word isn't quite through saving.

(2) is much more common in Word 2002/2003 and is due to Smart Tags. In Word
2000, I'd check the Undo list for Update Fields, which is the usual culprit
there. If that's the only "change" you've made, then it's safe to close
without saving.
