Word 2007 - Restart Numbering

Microsoft - PLEASE fix the restart/continue re-numbering feature in Word
2007. One would think that with this many years of user frustration and
complaints, you would have found a way to resolve the unstable numbering
behavior. FrameMaker had this solved years ago.

Can anyone offer advice for someone who has little or no VBA experience in
overcoming the restart numbering flaw?

What's your flaw? I rightclick on a numbered paragraph, choose Restart
Numbering, and the numbering restarts.

The numbering does not restart unless I right-click, select "Restart", and
then "undo" by using Ctrl+Z - and even this is inconsistent. Doing this
occasionally restarts the numbering sequence, but the numbered first item is
usually indented further (or differently) than subsequent numbered items at
that level. The behavior is inconsistent. It works ok at some numbered list
levels, but not at all levels (I have created five levels of numbered styles
in the template). The following illustrates the result I usually get (if it
restarts at all).

1. text, text, text
2. text, text, text
3. text, text, text

Hmm, you're beyond me there, but are you sure you created all your
levels strictly according to how Word wants to do it? The MVPs
frequently post the link to Shauna Kelly's essay on the topic -- it
couldn't hurt to start over and redo the whole numbering scheme all at
once.

Home->Styles->Manage Styles->Select Style, Click "Modify"->Make sure "Automatically Update" is DE-selected. You still have to "restart numbering at A/1/etc, but you don't have to do the "undo" step you mentioned.
