Word 2007 Outline View / Autoformating

I work for a office that has a very specific policy on how our policies and
procedures are written. They are to be in outline form, which is fine.
however I have spent hours now trying to get word to stop automatically
formating the document. I tried creating the P&P in outline view, however
when i switch back to normal view, there are no headings on the levels. The
headings is what I am having an issue with. They are automatically changing,
or moving the indention on me. Its becoming very frustrating. Can anyone
help????
 
Outline View probably won't help you much -- why don't you just use
the built-in styles Heading 1, Heading 2, etc., up to Heading 9; if
they need to be numbered, you can use one of the built-in styles (be
sure to put the cursor in the first Heading 1 paragraph when you
choose it), or you can make your own if your style sheet needs
something different.
 
And Word's "helpful" attempts at formatting can be discouraged at Office
Button | Word Options | Proof | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You
Type. Disable everything under "Apply as you type," along with "Define
styles based on your formatting."
