Word 2007: macro no longer extends selection

Dr. Paul

Let's say that I've downloaded a bibliography in which book titles are in
bold, and I wish to turn the bolds into italics.

In versions of Word prior to 2007, I could create a macro in which I would
(1) position my cursor at the start of the first bold title, (2) start
recording a macro, (3) press F8 (to turn on extended selection), (4) do a
"Find" for the next period, (5) do Shift-Left Arrow (to exclude the period).
The result was that the bold title, and only the bold title, was selected. I
would continue the macro with (6) "Bold" (to turn off bold) and (7) "Italics"
(to turn on italics). Finally, I would (8) do a "Find" for the next character
in bold (which would be at the beginning of the next bold title), (9) Left
Arrow to position the cursor at the start of the title, and (10) stop
recording the macro. Having assigned the macro to a keystroke, I could repeat
the keystroke a few times to change all bold titles to italics in mere
seconds.

In Word 2007, however, I encounter a problem. I start recording the macro,
then type F8. But when I use "Find" to find the next period, only the period
is highlighted: all of the characters between the cursor's position at the
beginning of the title and the period are NOT selected.

I will appreciate anyone's comments on this matter.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply, Pam. I'm going to try what
you've suggested.

Respectfully,

Dr. Paul
