word 2007 default font won't change

I want new word documents to have arial 11 as the default font and have
repeatedly tried to change the default font to that but it invariably
defaults to arial 12 - what can I do about this?

You can do this to set the defaults: Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S to display the
Styles pane (or click the dialog launcher button on the bottom right of the
Styles group of the Home tab). Click the Manage Styles button. On the Set
Defaults tab, specify the desired settings. Click "New documents based on
this template" and then click OK. If/when you are prompted to update the
template, choose to do so.
