Word 2003 will not start for one of 2 users on same computer

when one user tries to open a word document a dialog box pops up and says
Word failed to start last time, do you want to start in safe mode? If I say
no, Word won't start. I don't have a network printer, and I don't have WinFax
PRO v10.02. I've tried running winword.exe /a and winword /r but still have
the same problem. I have all current Windows and Office updates installed. My
recent installs are Quickbooks 2007 and Adobe 8.0 Standard which also have
been updated. With the two new programs, they installed two new printers but
I have only one printer which is an Epson CX4800 and is set as default. I am
not sure if the problem lies with Office service pack 3 or Adobe. Is there a
configuration problem or a compatability problem? Keep in mind all Office
programs work fine for one user and everything worked fine before the last
Windows update and Program installs and word works fine in safe mode. Please
help me figure this out.

Have you tried deleting and then recreating the user account for the user in
question?

Note that you may also want to ask for assistance in a Windows newsgroup.

I have not tried that as yet. I will have to copy and back up all her files
and photos and hope I get everything so I don't get nailed to the wall by my
wife. It's a good suggestion, thank you.

Your suggestion helped me to find the solution. with solution found, another
mystery unfolded. First of all I didn't dare delete my wife's data files, so
I created another user account and moved all her files except:
Ntuser.dat
Ntuser.dat.log
Ntuser.ini
into the new account only to find the same problem in the new account. When
I opened Word in the old account, Word opened just fine and all was well,
except for the fact that all her files were gone and her desktop was missing
8 icons. So I copied the document files from the newly created account one by
one and pasted them back into the old account. Now the old account is
operational and all I had to do was create new shortcuts for the missing
Icons and delete the new user I created. The mystery is "What caused this?",
since it wasn't a corrupted user profile, because I didn't transfer
Ntuser.dat,Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini. I may try to dissect and analyze
what went wrong but in the meantime everyone is happy, all is back to normal.
I got additional help from Tech Republic-CNET newsgroup who referred me to:
How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-us
It's important to note that if you delete the old user profile that you will
need to transfer all your outlook addresses and messages before hand or you
will lose all information in your outlook program.
