Word 2003 Selection

When highlighting text to format it (i.e. to make it bold) - it changes the
whole document and not only the text you have highlighted. What makes word do
this? It only seems to do this with new documents created and not with
documents that have been created by office 2000 etc

Word 2000 does it too, if you set the style to 'Automatically update'. Clear
that setting.

Thanks for all your help - that was the problem i also ended up deleteing the
normal.dot file as well because so it wouldn't default back
