word 2003 insert file

I use a macro which, among many other things, inserts files. Many of the files have the plus minus symbol ± alt-0177
In word 2000, my macro worked perfectly. I've upgraded to word 2003

Now any plus minus symbol is changed to a Japenese (Shift - JIS) font. I can manually tell word to insert the file, and when I do this manually, it brings up a file conversion/encoding window which lets me select Windows (default) font. Then it inserts correctly

Of course, I want my macro to do this, I don't want to have to select any conversion/encoding choice, and I do want it to always be the windows (default)

Any idea on what changed from word 2000 to word 2003 which would be giving me this grief? Any ideas on how I could instruct my macro to insert the file correctly as it did (and still does) on pc's running word 2000? Thanks.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?bWF5YmVycnltYW4=?=,

Have you tried recording inserting the file in Word 2003, including the
choice you maike for the encoding? Unfortunately, the InsertFile
command doesn't include an option to specify the encoding... You might
also want to see if the information in this KB article is any help

What might work would be to use the Open method, where you can specify
the encoding, then use .Range.FormattedText to trasnfer the information
into the other file. You should be able to open the document as
"hidden" so that the user doesn't notice.
