Word 2003 - Formatting Columns in Tables

I am doing a table with three columns of numbers. I need to format them as
follows -

$100,000

How do I do that in Word? When I type in the cell it comes out as -

100000

The simplest solution is to create the table in Excel, select and copy it to
the clipboard, then edit > paste special as a link in html format.
If the number in the Word table is the result of a calculation then you can
use a switch on the field to format it as you want -

If its a typed number, simply type it as you want it. Word tables do not
autoformat as numbers.
