Word 2003, document , end of paragraph, line spaceing off

In Word 2003, Doc, I punch enter and my curser drops down 12 -20 lines, not 1
line as it should. Wass Up?

In File > Page Setup > Layout, make sure the vertical alignment is set to
Top, not Justified or Centered.
