Word 2003 - Closing document causes numbered headings to be lost

Every time I open my document the Numbered Headings have disappeared.

However, the numbering is still present in my Table of Contents. Just not
along side the Headings.

This is occuring from a Template we are using and I am using Word 2003.

It sounds like "Automatically Update Document Styles" is checked. Go to
Tools - Templates and Add-ins and uncheck the box. Then reapply your numbers
and see if they won't stick.
