Word 2002: Too many users in tracked changes!

I'm experiencing a slight problem with Word 2002's Tracked Changes feature.
When you have more than eight people making changes to a document, Word
starts reusing the tracked changes colors for each individual.

Making this even more fun is the fact that we usually only have 2-3 users
who have actually made changes, and 9-15 people show up in the list of
people who have made changes within the document, even though they did not
make the changes. We're not sure where these people are coming from, but
that's not what worries me...

What really bothers me is that we occasionally get a "color collision" -
where one user attempting to edit the document is assigned the same color as
another user. I cannot find a way to force a color change for a specific
user, or to strip "extra" users out of the document. Any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.

If I'm not being clear, I'd be more than glad to offer clarification.

The question is quite clear. I wish the answer were equally so. I don't know
of any way around this, but note that each change should be annotated with
the reviewer's name. One thing you might try is displaying just the
"changes" made by the "reviewers" whose names you don't recognize (do this
by selecting the specific reviewers from the submenu under Show). Then under
Accept Change, select Accept All Changes Shown. This *might* take those
reviewers out of the lineup, but I make no promises.

I don't know about the colors, but here is one thing that might
explain the extra names:

The other issue is that although you might expect that the name of a
reviewer is a document property, Word 2002 apparently thinks that it
is a window property. That is, the list of reviewers that is presented
to you is a list of all reviewers for all currently open documents and
templates. To avoid confusion, you may need to close all but one
document when dealing with reviewer names. The word is that Word 2003
has fixed this bug.
