Hi,

I have created a word document template with fillin field codes. When I
open the document it start prompting me for the fillins (which is what I
want) but I can't see the fields that are not field codes until I have
answered all the prompts. This is a little hard to explain for me, so let me
give you an example. I have created a document with a header and then a
couple of spaces down I have typed Name and then I have entered a field code.
When the document opens I see nothing but the prompt from the field code,
until I have answered all the promts. Does anyone have any idea as to what I
am doing wrong. You can email directly at (e-mail address removed)

Thank You,
Malia

This is how fill-in fields work. You are doing nothing wrong except using a
series of fill-in fields. You may want to use what Word calls an "online
form,"instead. Check this in help. For more about online forms, follow the
links at http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm.

Otherwise, you could use macrobutton fields as prompts. See
http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/fields.htm#MacroButton and
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm for more
about macrobutton fields.

Finally, you could use a UserForm (a custom dialog box) to ask all of your
questions at once. http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm

I am guessing that you are a former Word Perfect user. If this is the case,
write back and I will give you a list of useful links in making the
transition. There is not a one-for-one fit in features. Some methods for
problem solving that work well in Word Perfect have different solutions in
Word.

Hope this helps,

You may also see a difference depending on whether the template was saved in
Normal or Print Layout view.
