OMG - I have been trying for the last hour to change the language default on
the opening word document - My problem is that the default is shown as Welsh
and I neeed it to be English UK. Currently any word doc I compose or re-open
at the foot of the page it says Welsh and the spell and grammer cheker don't
work!
I have tried via help to set the default via the start menu which I think
has been ok but as niether I or my partner speak or write in Welsh I could do
with the english spell cheker to work properly (as you may have guessed
already!) I have also tried via tools - set language but even though I check
the boc as Englis it keeps coming back Welsh! Any advice please??

You can change the language that the computer checks your work in. To
perform this operation click
Tools -> Language ->Set Language.

It would be better to go to the word newsgroups or the spell-checking
newsgroup.

It is one thing to change the default - which is the setting in the
absence of any data/content/text - and another to change the language of
the current text.

Changing the default does not change the current text. To change the
current text, simply select it all (Ctl+A) and then use the Set Language
dialog. The Set Language dialog works on the currently selected text. If
you have no selected text it just works from text as the current text
insertion point.

I am really trying to set the default to English UK. I will never use Welsh,
hence my problem. I think as we live in Wales the computr was delivered this
way. Do want to have another go at helping or would you prefer I do as you
suggest and go into amother forum - didn't know ther was a word one!
thx again

There are MANY word newsgroups, and there's even one devoted to spelling
and grammar.

If your user locale is set to English UK, and your keyboard language is
also set to English UK, and you've set Word to default to English UK
then you've done most of the right things. None of these things will
change existing documents, for the reasons I outlined before.
