Word 2002 Em Dash

D

Doreen

I have a problem with Em Dashes and AutoCorrect in Word 2002.

In any document, I'll type blahblah blahblah blahblah -- blahblahblah
blahblah blah -- blah blah.

The first -- will get replaced with an Em Dash, but the second one won't.
Or just random ones will, and random ones won't.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Figured it out.

What we were doing was inserting the second "--" and not typing after it.
If you don't type letters after the -- then the auto correct won't kick in.

If you omit the spaces before and after the two hyphens, they will be
replaced reliably.

You can, however, create an AutoCorrect entry to replace two hyphens with an
em dash, which will handle the case you cite.
