How do I get the small figures to place - above the word - pointing to an
explaning text further down on the the page?
Ex. Hello 1) should have the figure at the right corner of the O in Hello.

The word you're looking for is superscript (as opposed to subscript). How
to do it? In Word2003 (can't help directly with Word2000 but hopefully it
is similar) highlight the number and click on
<Format><Font><Superscript><OK>
